First Place

Jude Robinson

This is a gorgeous piece that pops off the wall with color and elegance. I knew immediately this was the winner when it caught my eye from across the room. What a powerful thing to do. I love how the figures dissolve into the shapes and patterns. This creates an exciting ambiguity where the patterns dominate the story telling process. Fantastic work!

This piece really pops off the canvas. The colors, contrast, and brush work really bring it to life. My initial response was “Wow!”

Third Place

Nancy Holmes

The size and initial contrast of the painting drew me in like a moth to a flame. The energy of the paint application carries the eye throughout the piece to an exciting climax at the suggestive trees on the horizon. It is a fantastic work. This piece really dominates the wall.

The texture and application is excellent. The paint so juicy looking you want to reach out and grab it. The contrast and composition puts this along side a Wolf Kahn.

I enjoyed seeing the process revealing itself throughout the piece. The subtle hues and finish creates a Rothko(ish) glow that makes you stare into the depths.

Watercolor was my first love and this painting hit all the marks. The wet on wet is spectacular, and the pop of the suggestive figures really make this piece. Quiet yet dramatic.

I loved the weaving of applications. The additive versus subtraction creates an exciting play on the eye.

Juicy suggestive marks will always excite me. There is beautiful layering of the paint marks on this painting. The most exciting part is knowing the correct anatomy is there, yet it is not spelled out for the viewer. Great painting!
